Model-based testing systems |

| Open-water tests on propellers and drag and propulsion tests with model ships are carried out in a recirculation tank. The test tank has a cross-section of 2.2 x 1.1 m, and a glazed measurement section 6 m long. Flow velocities of up to 4.5 m/s can be achieved. One of Voith Turbo Marine areas of specialisation is the development of optimum hull shapes for the Voith Water Tractors used to escort tankers. Figure 1 shows a model of a Voith Water Tractor in the test tank, with flow conditions like those often encountered when escorting large tankers. |
