Two-Stage Turbocharging (TS-System – Two Stage)

Two-stage systems are used where the required boost pressure cannot be achieved with a single turbocharger, or if the dynamics are seriously impaired by simply enlarging the turbocharger.

By combining a smaller, dynamic turbocharger (high-pressure stage) with a large unit, which ensures the required target output (low-pressure stage), a large power range can be covered. Various control concepts and bypass variations ensure optimum compliance with existing requirements.

On the basis of its series, Voith Turbo develops concepts for combining various turbochargers, which take customer-specific package requirements into account, and also the mechanisms required for controlling and optimizing the crossover between high- and low-pressure stage.
