Voith torque converters are hydrodynamic gear units that vary steplessly the torque and speeds between input shaft and output shaft. On account of its torque-speed characteristic, the torque converter is most suitable for starting gas turbines. Due to the typical torque converter output torque curve, a high breakaway and acceleration torque is available for start-up, enabling a quick run-up of gas turbine into the self-sustaining speed range.
