Voith turbo transmissions make a significant contribution to the availability and reliability of diesel-hydraulic rail vehicles. Their maintenance requirements are low, their service life high. Mileages depend on the operating conditions; the first major overhaul for railcars is normally due after approximately 1 – 2 million kilometres, or, for locomotives, after approximately 30,000 operating hours.

After being overhauled, turbo transmissions can achieve mileages similar to those of new units. The overhaul can be repeated several times throughout the service life of the transmission and offers the opportunity of comprehensive modernisation and hence adaptation to the latest state of technology.
