Voith final drives - transverse drives

The term transverse drive refers to the position of the drive motor axle in relation to the longitudinal axle of the vehicle or the bogie.

With transverse drives, the final drive shaft and the motor shaft are arranged in parallel to each other. The final drive shaft is driven through helical gears. In many cases, the transverse motor is positioned in the bogie and connected with the single or double-stage helical gear via a coupling on the primary side.  The helical gear itself is positioned on the axle and supported in the bogie.
